Fibrocystic Breast Disease

Diet

  1. Decrease refined carbohydrates. Carbohydrates can cause insulin resistance which negatively impact hormones. When hormones are out of balance estrogen can dominate and trigger abnormal cellular growth.
  2. Eat foods that promote liver detoxification, these include: cabbage-family, beets, carrots, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, onions, lemons and artichokes. These compounds enhance estrogen metabolism. Cut unhealthy fats such as fried foods, foods high in trans-fatty acids and saturated fats.
  3. Soy and flax compounds can help mitigate the effects of estrogen.
  4. Cut out caffeine, alcohol & dairy.

Lifestyle

  1. Exercise aerobically. Aerobic exercise helps to detox the body and improve insulin sensitivity.
  2. Avoid exposure to chemicals that interfere with liver function.
  3. Limit exposure to pesticides and plastics.
  4. Perform regular breast self-massage to stimulate the movement of lymph fluid through the breast tissue. The lymph fluid can get stagnant, especially from tight fitting bras (especially under wire bras) and make sure that you do not wear a bra to sleep.
